修士讀書認理真，几忘氣化有屈伸。
游魂為變原不昧，漫道人間無鬼神。
卻說萬歷年間，湖廣黃州府羅田縣，有一個秀才，姓石名峨，字
峻峰，別號嵐庵。乃洛陽石洪之后。為無未避亂，流落此處。家有房
宅一所，田地數頃。為人素性剛方，不隨時好，不信鬼神。夫人竺氏
惠而且賢，中饋針織外，黃卷青燈，恆以相夫讀書為務。因此峻峰學
業成就。每逢考試，獨冠一軍。四方聞風，無不爭相景仰，樂為結納
。可惜時運坑坷，隊 功名。凡進六場，不是命題差題，就是文中空
白。不是策內忘了抬頭，便是表里漏了年號。一連七次，俱被貼出。
但窮且益堅，立志不懈，待至年過四十，卻又是一個科分。這正是：
肯把工夫用百倍，那怕朱表不點頭。
凡大比之年，前數月內，魁星偏（遍）閱各省。揀其學問充足，
