By: (1844-1924)

Revolt of the Angels is a captivating and thought-provoking novel that delves into the complexities of free will, faith, and the struggle between good and evil. The story follows Arcade, a disillusioned guardian angel who rebels against his heavenly duties and joins a group of fallen angels in a plot to overthrow God and establish a new order.

Anatole France masterfully weaves together philosophical musings, religious allegory, and witty satire to create a rich and engaging narrative. The character development is superb, particularly the conflicted protagonist Arcade, whose internal struggles and moral dilemmas are deeply compelling.

The novel is filled with vivid imagery and poetic language that brings the celestial world to life, while also challenging readers to ponder deep questions about the nature of divinity, humanity, and the pursuit of personal freedom. Revolt of the Angels is a thought-provoking and imaginative work that will resonate with anyone who has ever grappled with questions of faith, destiny, and the power of choice.

Book Description:
Anatole France, in his satirical and allegorical fashion, weaves a tale of fantasy which finds a mischievous guardian angel stealing books from his earthly charge, who happens to be an archbishop in possession of a plethora of literature, mostly theological in nature. After voracious reading and then becoming a "fallen" angel, he decides to search for and recruit other "fallen" angels who devise a plan to attempt an overthrow of the rule which had set their fate, realizing that revolt is necessary and inevitable. What follows is preparation for a battle to revenge what has befallen them (and mankind itself). But surprises find their way into the plans, as well as the question that if they win the war, what will change?
