DOEL MIJNER REIS.

Voor een avontuurlijk gemoed was de opdracht, waarmede ik naar Indië was vertrokken en me nu in October 1912 te Ternate bevond, om in de wolken te zijn.

Het doel mijner reis was, in 't kort, het onderzoeken der geschiktheid van reeds aangevraagde concessieterreinen op Halmaheira en omliggende eilanden voor de cultuur van klappers en, zoo mogelijk, een onderneming voor een dergelijke cultuur op een dier terreinen te vestigen. Een planter van ervaring, die hiervoor twee weken eerder uit Holland was vertrokken, zou mij daar ter zijde staan. Op Java hadden we elkaar ontmoet en wij hadden te zamen de reis naar de Molukken aanvaard.
