De heraldiek staat met de ornamentiek in nauw verband. Vele decorateurs, teekenaars, ornamentisten en calligrafen hebben dan ook meer dan eens in hun leven met wapenschilden en wat daarmee in verband staat, te doen gehad, zoodat een boekje over die hoofdstukken uit de wapenkunde, die voor bovengenoemde categorie personen van belang zijn, in deze bibliotheek niet achterwege mag blijven.

De heraldische kleuren worden ook emails of tinkturen genoemd, en zijn te onderscheiden in:

A. metalen, B. kleuren en C. pelswerk.

Oorspronkelijk waren er 6 tinkturen, n.l. 2 metalen: goud en zilver en 4 kleuren: rood, blauw, zwart en groen.
