Quant au titre du poëme, la Zaffetta , dérivé du mot Zaffo , qui en dialecte vénitien signifie sbire , il désigne le surnom que l'on donnait à cette courtisane pour la distinguer de celles de ses compagnes qui portaient le même nom qu'elle, et n'a point la signification injurieuse que lui attribue Magné de Marolles dans son Manuel bibliographique inédit, cité par Brunet, au mot Puttana errante . L'auteur de cet opuscule est Lorenzo Veniero, noble Vénitien, qui, en le commençant, déclare l'entreprendre pour prouver qu'il est également l'auteur de la Puttana errante , autre poëme satirique que l'on attribuait faussement à l'Arétin, et qu'il faut bien se garder de confondre, comme l'ont fait plusieurs bibliographes, avec un dialogue en prose portant exactement le même titre... La Zaffetta est un poëme satirique en un chant composé de cent quatorze stances non numérotées, de huit vers chacune, et dont le sujet est le récit d'une aventure qui devint le châtiment infligé à une courtisane de Venise nommée Angela.

Quant au titre du poëme, la Zaffetta , dérivé du mot Zaffo , qui en dialecte vénitien signifie sbire , il désigne le surnom que l'on donnait à cette courtisane pour la distinguer de celles de ses compagnes qui portaient le même nom qu'elle, et n'a point la signification injurieuse que lui attribue Magné de Marolles dans son Manuel bibliographique inédit, cité par Brunet, au mot Puttana errante .
