Roger Lecoulteux zézaye très fort. Un peu courtaud pour l'élégance de son costume d'été, les cheveux trop blonds, la peau trop rose, semblable à un gros enfant joyeusement repû et fraîchement débarbouillé, il s'est dressé devant Kerjean, il l'arrête, gênant les passants au milieu de l'allée bitumée qui, du Hall des Sources au Casino, traverse le Vieux Parc de Vichy.

Qu'est ce qui vous attire ici, Kerjean?... Je parierais que c'est le meeting d'aviation.

Vous gagneriez.

Moi, je suis venu sur la demande de ma mère qui commençait une cure, puis, la cure accomplie, ma mère est partie... et, sur son conseil, je suis resté... Toute une histoire!

Vraiment!

Kerjean sourit. Il est rare que Roger Lecoulteux émette de suite trois phrases, sans alléguer les actes ou citer les opinions de sa mère.
