PRÉFACE AUX ENFANTS.

Dieu, lorsqu'il eut fait les hommes, chercha un adoucissement à leurs peines: il mit au monde l'amour maternel.

Depuis ce temps les enfans sont heureux; ils ont des mères pour veiller sur eux, et pour les embrasser.

Étant petits, elles les soignent avec sollicitude, leur font des lits propres et doux, leur apprennent à prier, à lire, et à aimer. Elles les aiment tant, ces mères! Une d'elles, qui a bercé les siens en cherchant à les instruire par des leçons tendres et faciles, a rassemblé ces leçons pour tous les petits enfants, auxquels les siens envoient des voeux, des baisers, et leur livre qu'ils savent par coeur.
