Da parte musical da primeira comedia d'este livro se encarregou o distincto maestro Francisco de Sá Noronha, quando a comedia se escreveu com destino a ser representada em Lisboa. Sendo importantissimo para o bom exito theatral o subsidio da musica n'esta composição, e sobrevindo rasões que desviaram o nosso amigo Noronha de collaborar comnosco em tamanha futilidade, não pôde por isso a comedia ser submettida á opinião das platêas. Quem a lêr agora tem de benevolamente disfarçar o seu fastio de leitura de versos, feitos ou copiados das canções populares, para se cantarem. Por via de regra, taes trovas são sempre asperas ou dissaboridas na declamação, mórmente as que formam o Auto do nascimento do menino Jesus , consoante elle se figura nas aldêas do Minho ainda hoje.
