The central theme of the novel revolves around the intense rivalry between Ellen and Grace, both vying for the love and attention of the same man. Brame expertly weaves together their stories, exploring the depths of their emotions and the lengths they are willing to go to protect what they hold dear. The characters are complex and multi-dimensional, each with their own flaws and redeeming qualities. It is through their interactions and personal growth that the true essence of the story shines.

At the time of the trial all the papers spoke of his little son a fair haired little lad, who was as unconscious of all that happened as a little babe. I have often wondered what became of him.
