The story follows the charming protagonist, Jack Winston, a young lawyer from New York City who finds himself in the midst of a seemingly mundane small town. Little does he know that this unexpected detour will ignite a series of events that will forever change his life.

Daviess masterfully weaves a compelling narrative, effectively portraying the stark contrast between the bustling city life and the idyllic simplicity of rural living. Through vivid descriptions and evocative prose, she paints a vivid picture of Paradise Ridge, a slice of heaven nestled amidst the rolling hills. As the pages turn, readers will be irresistibly drawn into this enchanting world.

One of the novel's greatest strengths lies in its memorable characters. Jack, with his sophistication and ambition, initially appears out of place in this tight-knit community. However, over time, he forms heartwarming friendships with the locals, particularly Miss Bruce, a wise and endearing elderly woman. Their interactions become the catalyst for Jack's personal growth and self-discovery, as he learns valuable life lessons about love, forgiveness, and what truly matters.

The romance element in Over Paradise Ridge is tenderly portrayed, with a slow-burn development that allows readers to savor every moment. Daviess skillfully builds the chemistry and connection between Jack and the mysterious and beautiful Lucy Martin. Their relationship unfolds with passionate intensity, combined with a longing for something more profound than fleeting infatuation. Through their emotional journey, the author explores the complexities of love, addressing fears, insecurities, and the need for vulnerability.

Beyond the romance, the novel delves into deeper themes such as personal redemption and the pursuit of one's passions. Jack's journey to finding his true purpose and reconciling with his past mistakes is both relatable and inspiring. The author reminds us of the transformative power of love and the importance of embracing second chances.

Although Over Paradise Ridge is primarily a romance, it also offers a captivating glimpse into the intricacies of small-town life. Daviess skillfully portrays the vibrant community dynamics, showcasing the collective spirit that bonds its residents together. From the colorful local traditions to the humorous interactions, every aspect of this community feels authentic and adds depth to the overall narrative.

Overall, Over Paradise Ridge is a beautifully written and enchanting novel that will captivate readers with its poignant romance, charming characters, and evocative settings. Maria Thompson Daviess has crafted a mesmerizing story that explores the transformative power of love, personal growth, and the beauty of seizing second chances. Full of warmth, humor, and heart, this book is a delightful escape into a world overflowing with hope and the enchantment of small-town living.

In my case it was Samuel Foster Crittenden, though how could he have counted on the amount of Grandmother Nelson that was planted deep in my disposition, ready to spring up and bear fruit as soon as I was brought in direct acquaintance with a seed basket and a garden hoe? Also why should Sam's return to a primitive state have forced my ancestry up to the point of flowering on the surface? I do hope Sam will not have to suffer consequences, but I can't help it if he does. What's born in us is not our fault.
