Freie Gegend. Im Hintergrunde das Meer, dessen flaches Ufer sich gegen die linke Seite zu in felsichten Abstufungen emporhebt. Hart am Ufer ein Altar der Aphrodite. Rechts im Vorgrunde der Eingang einer Grotte mit Gestraeuch und Eppich umwachsen; weiter zurueck das Ende eines Saeulenganges mit Stufen, zu Sapphos Wohnung fuehrend. Auf der linken Seite des Vorgrundes ein hohes Rosengebuesch mit einer Rasenbank davor.
