As the name implies, Genesis is about the beginnings. The book of Genesis speaks of how God created the heavens and the earth, humanity and everything that exists. It shows that God is the Creator and the Ruler of all creation. But it also speaks of the tragic fall of mankind in sin and death, and of God's plan of redemption through His covenant with Abraham and His descendants. Genesis includes some of the most memorable stories in the Bible, beginning with Adam and Eve , continuing on to Noah and the flood, the tower of Babel, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and ending with the life of Joseph who died around 188 BC. Most Jews and Christians recognize Moses as the author of Genesis, who probably wrote it some time after the Exodus from Egypt .
