Collected Poems of Lord Alfred Douglas

Book cover
By: (1870-1945)

Lord Alfred Douglas is perhaps best known for his controversial relationship with Oscar Wilde, but his poetry deserves recognition in its own right. This collection showcases the diverse range of Douglas's poetic talent, from tender love poems to biting satires.

One of the standout qualities of Douglas's poetry is its emotional depth. His love poems are filled with raw, heartfelt emotion, capturing the joys and pains of love in vivid detail. In contrast, his satirical works display a sharp wit and keen insight into human nature, offering biting critiques of society and its conventions.

The collection also reflects Douglas's keen awareness of the power of language. His poems are carefully crafted, with precise imagery and evocative language that bring his words to life on the page. Whether he is exploring themes of love, nature, or politics, Douglas's mastery of language shines through in every line.

Overall, the Collected Poems of Lord Alfred Douglas is a must-read for fans of poetry. Douglas's work is both timeless and relevant, offering a unique perspective on love, life, and the human experience. This collection is a testament to his talent as a poet and a worthy addition to any poetry lover's bookshelf.

Book Description:
This is a chronologically arranged collection of poems compiled by the author in his late 40s, after he had discarded the Uranian themes of his youth. Douglas was primarily a sonneteer, and this collection features shorter poems about love, hatred, nature, religion, death, and even the art of poetry itself. It does not include Two Loves, the poem made famous by Oscar Wilde’s defence of it in his 1895 trials. - Summary by Rob Marland
