By: (1925-2012)

Deathworld is a gripping science fiction novel that explores the dangerous concept of a planet where every living thing is actively trying to kill humans. The protagonist, Jason dinAlt, is a resourceful and cunning gambler who finds himself caught in a deadly game of survival on this treacherous world.

Harry Harrison crafts a thrilling and suspenseful narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats as they follow Jason's journey to outwit the deadly creatures and harsh environment of Pyrrus. The world-building is vivid and immersive, painting a stark and unforgiving picture of this hostile planet.

The character development is also well-done, with Jason evolving from a brash and confident gambler to a more thoughtful and strategic survivor as he navigates the dangers of Pyrrus. The relationships he forms with the native inhabitants provide depth and complexity to the story, adding layers of moral and ethical dilemmas for Jason to grapple with.

Overall, Deathworld is a fast-paced and exhilarating read that will appeal to fans of classic science fiction and high-stakes adventure. It's a thrilling tale of survival and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds, and a must-read for anyone looking for a pulse-pounding sci-fi adventure.

Book Description:
A world that actively seeks to kill the colonists. Not a pleasant place. The hordes of ferocious animals all come with deadly poison and a will to kill as many humans as possible. Even the plants have teeth and claws and toxins dripping from every surface. They fly, crawl and run for the chance to sink something terrible into a human arm or leg. Oh, and did I mention the 2G gravity? Pyrrus is it's name. The settlers there were supermen... twice as strong as ordinary men and with instantaneous reflexes. They had to be. For their business was murder...a 3 year old Pyrrian had a loaded gun strapped to his forearm and knew how to use it or he was a dead 3 year old. It was up to Jason dinAlt, interplanetary gambler, to discover why Pyrrus had become so hostile during man's brief habitation...if he could stay alive long enough to even make a start - Summary by phil chenevert
