Summa Theologica - 05 Pars Prima, On the Divine Government

Book cover
By: (1225-1274)

In "Summa Theologica - 05 Pars Prima, On the Divine Government," Saint Thomas Aquinas continues his exploration of theological concepts with a focus on the divine government. This volume delves deep into the nature of God's providence and how it relates to the order of the universe.

Aquinas's meticulous and systematic approach to theology is on full display in this work, as he carefully analyzes and synthesizes various theological and philosophical ideas. He draws on a wide range of sources, including scripture, Aristotle, and other theologians, to support his arguments and deepen his understanding of the divine government.

One of the key themes in this volume is the idea of divine providence and how God's plan and will are manifested in the world. Aquinas argues that God's providence extends to all things and that everything that happens is part of God's plan, even though we may not always understand it.

Overall, "Summa Theologica - 05 Pars Prima, On the Divine Government" is a dense and challenging read, but one that is ultimately rewarding for those interested in theology and philosophy. Aquinas's profound insights and nuanced arguments make this work a valuable contribution to the study of theology and the understanding of God's role in the world.

Book Description:

The Summa Theologica (or the Summa Theologiae or simply the Summa, written 1265–1274) is the most famous work of Thomas Aquinas (c. 1225–1274) although it was never finished. It was intended as a manual for beginners and a compilation of all of the main theological teachings of that time. It summarizes the reasoning for almost all points of Christian theology in the West, which, before the Protestant Reformation, subsisted solely in the Roman Catholic Church. The Summa's topics follow a cycle: the existence of God, God's creation, Man, Man's purpose, Christ, the Sacraments, and back to God.
