Story of Doctor Dolittle (version 2)

Book cover
By: (1886-1947)

This is the original book about the amazing Dr. Dolittle who "Besides the gold-fish in the pond at the bottom of his garden, he had rabbits in the pantry, white mice in his piano, a squirrel in the linen closet and a hedgehog in the cellar." In it, the kind hearted dreamer learns he likes animals better than humans; is introduced to animal speech by his parrot, Polynesea; becomes very poor; travels to Africa and has many adventures with his animal friends. And they are indeed friends.

INTRODUCTION

There are some of us now reaching middle age who discover themselves to be lamenting the past in one respect if in none other, that there are no books written now for children comparable with those of thirty years ago. I say written FOR children because the new psychological business of writing ABOUT them as though they were small pills or hatched in some especially scientific method is extremely popular today. Subject: Love the book, narration not so great.
The narrators varied greatly in ability, some were great, some terrible. But I think my greatest annoyance were the ones who seem to think it is appropriate to advertise their websites....especially when the narration was bad. Who would want to go check out someone's website if their narration was terrible? Seriously guys, stop it.

Subject: Book was good, but readers poor
We were disappointed that the reader was constantly changing. It didn't bother us enough to stop listening, but it was frustrating.
