若夫指帝天而喻美，賦雲雨以傳奇，此固小說家鏗金戛玉，多存嬿婉之詞 ，是世人之不可與莊語也。然謂柳絮之才罕柏舟之操，如雲之媛罔崩城之烈， 辭華之媖多同車之行，苧羅之姝靡坐檯之守，竊香之姬無墜樓之志，琴心之女 乏投梭之貞，何哉？竹箭不花，芙蕖寡節，豈非騷人墨客借古人以澆胸中壘塊 也。
細閱此書，寓旨隱躍，如諷如嘲，全在浩然之氣耳。觀施碧霞賣身葬母， 陷入虎穴，終保完璞﹔李榮春仗義疏財，臨大節而不可奪﹔花錦章專國柄殘害 忠良﹔花子能倚父勢導情恣欲，強佔人家三十一女，難逃冶女淫風，不保妻子 ﹔父子聚，忝不知儆，尚欲弒君僭位。若非萬花老祖預知、陶天豹指點，諸英 雄何知救駕，奸相滿門焉能伏誅，則施必顯之輩聚集蟠蛇山豈不幾幾終為草寇 也耶？
予觀古今書籍多無如江如海之才，儒墨旅人集傾國傾城之句，未若此《天 豹圖》一書，包羅忠孝，罔乖大雅，其膽豪神雋可及也，其浩然之氣不可及也 。是為序。
