Im dritten Bande der Kinder und Hausmärchen hat Wilhelm Grimm auf S. 353 der Ausgabe von 1856 auf die ihm bis zu der Zeit bekannt gewordenen ehstnischen Märchen hingewiesen, und auf S. 385 namentlich die zuerst von Fählmann im Jahre 1842 in dem ersten Bande der Verhandlungen der gelehrten ehstnischen Gesellschaft zu Dorpat veröffentlichte anmuthige Dichtung Koit und Ämmarik hervorgehoben. In ausführlicherer Fassung ist die letztere später (1854) von =Dr.= Friedrich Kreutzwald mir mitgetheilt und von mir im Bulletin der St. Petersburger Akademie =T. XII.= Nr. 3, 4 (auch in den =Mélanges russes= =T. II.= S. 409) in dem Aufsatz »zur ehstnischen Mythologie« abgedruckt worden. Ebendaselbst habe ich auch auf die Möglichkeit einer Entlehnung dieser Dichtung von einem Nachbarvolke aufmerksam gemacht.
