Celle qui eût voulu n'écrire que pour elle et pour ses amis; qui bornait ses succès à leurs suffrages, et ne voyait, au delà du cercle qui l'environnait, qu'une bruyante et orageuse renommée souvent disputée péniblement, et presque toujours payée bien plus qu'elle ne vaut: celle enfin qui ne voulait pas même qu'une femme écrivît, a pris et conservera parmi les femmes auteurs un rang distingué; a vu ses ouvrages entre les mains d'une foule de lecteurs, et a cessé de s'appartenir à elle même pour mériter et recueillir les honneurs du triomphe public...
