Wat toch is hierbij doorgaans het geval? Het publiek, dat het geïllustreerde tijdschrift doorbladert, kijkt de reproducties der foto's op tweeërlei wijze aan; òf het is vluchtig bij zijn beschouwing en dezulken komen in geen geval in aanmerking; òf het is aandachtig en ziet, hoe de kunstenaar zich voor zijn object wist te plaatsen, om een mooi belicht geval vast te leggen, hoe de fotograaf zijn opname technisch vaardig op papier bracht. Wat heeft dan nog de leverancier van het bijschrift van noode? Daar zit een Joden memmele op de stoep van haar gang; dit is wel een Jodin; haar flodderig mutsje, met het strikje d'r op, zegt dat ze gehuwd is; ze is niet mooi; ze is niet jong; ze is ook niet òver weelderig gekleed; ze stopt sokken, die grof zijn... Toen de directie van dit blad mij de verzameling photo's van den heer K. Job Jr. ter inzage zond en mij verzocht, bij deze reeks kunstvolle opnamen door een knap vakman en artistiek waarnemer een bijschrift te willen leveren, dat uitteraard eveneens onder den vooropgezetten verzameltitel "In de Amsterdamsche Jodenbuurt", zou moeten passen heb ik even geaarzeld, omdat het leveren van bijschriften zulk een onheusch werk is!

Wat toch is hierbij doorgaans het geval? Het publiek, dat het geïllustreerde tijdschrift doorbladert, kijkt de reproducties der foto's op tweeërlei wijze aan; òf het is vluchtig bij zijn beschouwing en dezulken komen in geen geval in aanmerking; òf het is aandachtig en ziet, hoe de kunstenaar zich voor zijn object wist te plaatsen, om een mooi belicht geval vast te leggen, hoe de fotograaf zijn opname technisch vaardig op papier bracht.

Wat heeft dan nog de leverancier van het bijschrift van noode?
