The book was published in 1905 and was one of the first Finnish bestsellers. The Song of the Blood-Red Flower is based on the story of Don Juan. The main character is young Olof Koskela, who leaves home after having an argument with his parents and begins to work as a lumberjack. Along the way he charms several women, whom he abandons when the lumberjacks move on.
