(Le théâtre représente un intérieur d'auberge, à Sillery, près de Québec. Au lever du rideau, Adrien est assis près d'une table, écrivant. Josepte est occupée à rincer des verres.)

SCÈNE I

ADRIEN, JOSEPTE, CAYOU.

CAYOU, entrant Toujours à écrire, lui?

JOSEPTE Oui, à sa blonde probablement; ce pauvre M. Launière!

CAYOU Foi de gueux! il fait plus de pattes de mouches en dix minutes, que j'en fais pendant six mois pour tenir les comptes de l'auberge.
