Letters to Dead Authors by Andrew Lang is a thought-provoking and engaging collection of letters written to some of the most prominent authors in history. The letters themselves are beautifully written, with Lang seamlessly blending personal reflections with literary analysis. Whether he is discussing the lasting impact of Shakespeare's works or exploring the complexities of Dickens' characters, Lang's words are consistently captivating and insightful.

One of the standout features of this book is Lang's ability to connect with these long-deceased authors on a personal level. By sharing his own experiences and thoughts, he brings a sense of intimacy to the conversations, making it feel as though the reader is a part of the dialogue.

Overall, Letters to Dead Authors is a captivating read that will appeal to anyone with a love of literature. Lang's writing is both educational and entertaining, making this book a must-read for both scholars and casual readers alike.

Book Description:
With twenty two letters, addressed to various already deceased authors, Andrew Lang discusses literary subjects with his usual humour and acidity. The impulse for the writing of the letters came, almost as a joke, from the editor of the 'St. James's Gazette,' and sixteen of the letters collected in the volume appeared first in that journal. According to the author, "some of the Letters are written rather to suit the Correspondent than to express the writer's own taste or opinions"; in all of them, though, the reader will find the charming wit of their author.
