The Maner of the Tryumphe of Caleys and Bulleyn and The Noble Tryumphant Coronacyon of Quene Anne, Wyfe unto the Most Noble Kynge Henry VIII   By:

The Maner of the Tryumphe of Caleys and Bulleyn and The Noble Tryumphant Coronacyon of Quene Anne, Wyfe unto the Most Noble Kynge Henry VIII by Edmund [Editor] Goldsmid

In "The Maner of the Tryumphe of Caleys and Bulleyn and The Noble Tryumphant Coronacyon of Quene Anne, Wyfe unto the Most Noble Kynge Henry VIII," editor Edmund Goldsmid presents an insightful and comprehensive account of two notable events during the reign of King Henry VIII. The book provides a valuable historical perspective on the triumphs and celebrations that occurred, shedding light on the political, social, and cultural aspects of the time.

Goldsmid's editing work is commendable, as he manages to bring together various contemporary accounts and documents to create a coherent narrative. By presenting primary sources such as letters, ballads, and firsthand descriptions, the editor allows readers to immerse themselves in the experiences and emotions of the people involved. This meticulous curation of historical material adds depth and authenticity to the events unfolding throughout the book.

One of the key strengths of Goldsmid's work is his attention to detail when it comes to contextualizing the events. He provides ample background information about the political climate, the monarchs involved, and the significance of each event in the larger historical context. This ensures that readers, even those with limited knowledge of the period, can fully grasp the importance of these triumphs and coronation.

Moreover, Goldsmid's writing style is accessible and engaging, making it easy for readers to follow along and maintain interest throughout the book. Despite dealing with historical events, the narrative never becomes dry or overwhelming, thanks to the editor's ability to balance factual information with personal anecdotes and entertaining observations.

However, it is important to note that this book is primarily intended for readers with a keen interest in Tudor history. Those seeking a general overview of the period may find the level of detail overwhelming at times. Additionally, while Goldsmid's editing is meticulous, the abundance of primary sources and differing accounts can occasionally lead to a fragmented narrative.

"The Maner of the Tryumphe of Caleys and Bulleyn and The Noble Tryumphant Coronacyon of Quene Anne, Wyfe unto the Most Noble Kynge Henry VIII" is a valuable addition to any historical library, providing an in-depth exploration of two significant events in Tudor history. With its careful editing, attention to detail, and engaging narrative style, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into the grandeur and spectacle of King Henry VIII's reign.

INTRODUCTION.

The two extremely rare tracts here given have been reprinted by Prof. Arber in his "English Garner," if we can call reprinting the issuing of a pamphlet not only with the spelling entirely modernised, but also with words and phrases inserted or inverted to suit the Editor's taste. In the " Tryumphe at Caleys " Mr Arber has issued the Second Edition, giving us no particulars whatever as to the First. In the list of the noblemen of France, Mr Arber modernises the names and yet gives us a Cardinal Gramond , being evidently unaware of the existence of the noble family of de Grammont, and he equally fails to recognise in the Comte de Tonnore, the celebrated Armand, Comte de Tonnerre. Anne de Montmerancy remains for him an unknown actor on the brilliant stage, and yet, surely, the name of the Montmorency must have reached his ears... Continue reading book >>
