Book cover

No Hiding Place by Richard R. Smith is a riveting thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end. Set in a small, tight-knit community in the picturesque countryside, the story delves into the dark secrets and hidden demons that haunt the residents' lives.

The book masterfully weaves together multiple storylines, each interconnected and intriguing in its own right. Smith effortlessly switches between perspectives, allowing readers to see the events unfolding through the eyes of various characters. This narrative technique not only adds depth to the story but also keeps the reader engaged, eagerly turning the pages to uncover the truth.

The protagonist, a young journalist named Sarah, is a relatable and determined character who sets out to investigate a series of mysterious occurrences in the town. As she digs deeper, she becomes entangled in a web of deception, betrayal, and long-buried secrets. Smith skillfully portrays Sarah's tenacity and vulnerability, making her a compelling heroine who readers can root for.

One of the standout aspects of No Hiding Place is the atmospheric setting. Smith's vivid descriptions bring the idyllic countryside to life, while also highlighting the sinister undercurrents lurking beneath the surface. The author's attention to detail transports readers to the heart of the community, allowing them to feel the chill of winter winds and hear the crunch of leaves underfoot.

The pacing of the novel is impeccable, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger. Smith expertly builds suspense, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next revelation or plot twist. He knows when to reveal key information and when to keep readers in the dark, resulting in a captivating and unpredictable narrative.

While No Hiding Place excels in plotting and characterization, it occasionally falls short in its exposition. Some background information is delivered through lengthy dialogue or inner monologues, disrupting the flow of the story. However, this minor flaw is easily overshadowed by the book's many strengths.

Overall, No Hiding Place is a gripping thriller that will satisfy fans of the genre. Richard R. Smith has crafted a compelling tale of secrets, betrayal, and the lengths people will go to protect their own. With its engaging characters, atmospheric setting, and relentless suspense, this book is a must-read for anyone seeking an intense and thrilling read.

First Page:

Turnabout may not always be fair play in the gulfs between the stars. But so destructive and malicious are the Agronians of this story that we can readily forgive Richard Smith for filling their ship with an unexpected reversal of a victory technique almost too ghastly to contemplate. We have no sympathy for them and neither has Mr. Smith. Still, we're rather glad he decided to make human heroism the cornerstone of a most exciting tale of conflict in space.

The Earth was enveloped in atomic fire and the ship was a prize of war. But disaster may make victory mandatory.

The ship leaped toward the stars, its engines roaring with a desperate burst of energy and its bulkheads audibly protesting the tremendous pressures.

In the control room, Emmett Corbin listened to the screech of tormented metal and shuddered. The heat was suffocating, and acrid fumes assailed his nostrils and burned his eyes until he almost cried out in pain.

Despite the agony, his gaze did not waver from the video set across the room. In the screen, Earth was a rapidly diminishing orb, charred and mottled with glowing atomic fires.

Everything , a far corner of his mind whispered. Everything on Earth is dead!

He was a carpenter and luckily, he had been working inside the barricades of an Army spaceport when the news came that the enemy had broken through the defense ring beyond Pluto... Continue reading book >>
