Satan Absolved   By: (1840-1922)

Book cover

Satan Absolved by Wilfred Scawen Blunt is a stunning and provocative literary work that delves deep into theological and philosophical questions. Blunt's exploration of the nature of evil and the concept of forgiveness is both thought-provoking and controversial.

The book takes the reader on a unique journey, presenting a relentless and unapologetic perspective from the point of view of Satan himself. Blunt challenges traditional notions of good and evil, presenting Satan as a complex and multifaceted character, far from the conventional portrayal of pure malevolence. Instead, he offers an alternative perspective that forces us to reconsider our preconceived notions about Satan and his role in the grand scheme of things.

Blunt's writing style is eloquent and rich, drawing the reader in with vivid descriptions and powerful imagery. With each turn of the page, his masterful storytelling immerses us in a world where Satan is not simply an adversary, but a sympathetic and misunderstood figure. Blunt's skillful incorporation of various mythologies and religious influences adds depth to the narrative, elevating it beyond a mere exploration of a single entity's redemption.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Satan Absolved is its exploration of forgiveness and absolution. Blunt challenges the traditional Christian view that only God can offer redemption, suggesting that even Satan himself is capable of transformation and deserving of forgiveness. This bold assertion forces readers to contemplate the boundaries of forgiveness and what it truly means to absolve someone of their sins.

While filled with profound ideas and philosophical musings, the book does have its moments of ambiguity and excessive poetic language. Some readers may find the dense prose challenging to navigate, as Blunt often immerses himself in intricate metaphors and allegories. However, for those who are willing to invest the time and effort in dissecting his metaphysical arguments, Satan Absolved will be a rewarding and intellectually stimulating read.

In conclusion, Satan Absolved is a daring and thought-provoking exploration of theological themes, such as the nature of evil, forgiveness, and the complexity of moral absolutes. Blunt's eloquent writing and unique perspective on Satan challenge readers to question their own beliefs and preconceptions, opening up a rich tapestry of philosophical debate. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the ideas presented, this book is undeniably an intriguing and engaging read that will leave a profound impact on those who delve into its pages.

PREFACE

In publishing this poem, the Author feels that some apology is needed. It deals with matters of a kind not usually treated in modern verse, and which ask to be approached, if at all, with dignity and reverence. He trusts that he will not be found lacking on this essential point. Nevertheless, he cannot expect but that he may wound by his plain speaking the feelings of those among his readers who sincerely believe that Nineteenth Century Civilisation is synonymous with Christianity, and that the English Race, above all those in existence, has a special mission from Heaven to subdue and occupy the Earth. The self complacency of the Author's countrymen on this head is too deeply seated to be attacked without offence. He has not, however, shrunk from so attacking, and from insisting on the truth that the hypocrisy and all acquiring greed of modern England is an atrocious spectacle one which, if there be any justice in Heaven, must bring a curse from God, as it has surely already made the angels weep...
