By: (1840-1928)

"Tess of the d'Urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy is a tragic and poignant portrayal of a young woman's struggles against the societal constraints placed upon her. Tess's story is one of heartbreak, betrayal, and ultimate tragedy as she navigates the complexities of love, morality, and fate.

Hardy's writing is beautifully crafted, evoking the atmosphere of rural England in the late 19th century with vivid descriptions of the countryside and the characters who inhabit it. Tess herself is a complex and multi-dimensional protagonist, torn between her own desires and the expectations placed upon her by society.

As Tess's story unfolds, the reader is taken on a journey of emotional highs and lows, feeling deeply for her as she faces one hardship after another. Hardy does not shy away from exploring difficult themes such as sexual violence, class oppression, and the limitations placed upon women in society.

Overall, "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" is a compelling and thought-provoking read that delves into the complexities of human nature and the ways in which our choices can shape our destiny. Hardy's masterful storytelling and insightful social commentary make this novel a timeless classic that continues to resonate with readers today.

Book Description:
"Tess of the d'Urbervilles: A Pure Woman Faithfully Presented" is a novel by Thomas Hardy, first published in 1891. It initially appeared in a censored and serialised version, published by the British illustrated newspaper, The Graphic. Though now considered an important work of English literature, the book received mixed reviews when it first appeared, in part because it challenged the sexual mores of Hardy's day. The original manuscript is on display at the British Library, showing that it was originally titled "Daughter of the d'Urbervilles." This project was DPLed by Bead Krazy Dawn and pwaugh68

Subject: Thomas Hardy kills me
Somehow I've missed this book in all the Thomas Hardy I've read. The story contained many surprises, especially in the last few chapters, and the reader did a good job.
