The Lodger

The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes
By: (1868-1947)

The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes is a suspenseful and gripping tale that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The author does an excellent job of building tension and creating a dark and eerie atmosphere throughout the novel.

The story revolves around a mysterious lodger who takes up residence in a boarding house and arouses suspicion among the other residents. As the plot unfolds, secrets are revealed, and the true identity of the lodger is uncovered in a shocking and unexpected twist.

Lowndes' writing is masterful, with vivid descriptions and well-developed characters that draw the reader in and keep them hooked until the final page. The pacing of the story is perfect, with just the right amount of suspense and intrigue to keep the reader guessing.

Overall, The Lodger is a haunting and atmospheric read that will appeal to fans of classic suspense and mystery novels. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling and engrossing tale.

Book Description:

The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes was inspired by the Jack the Ripper murders. An older couple, the Buntings, are forced to take in lodgers to make ends meet. They are on the verge of starvation when a mysterious man, Mr. Sleuth, appears at their door and asks for lodging, paying in advance. However, when the murders of young women in London attributed to a man known only as “The Avenger” continue, the Buntings, particularly Mrs. Bunting, grow fearful that their lodger may be the murderer.

Subject: the Lodger
beautifully read but horrible that they knew mr. Seuth was the murderer and just let him keep murdering. makes no sense to me.

I agree with other reviewers in that there was no mystery to hold your attention as the book progresses. As well, the recorder was not pronouncing words correctly which becomes very distracting, very quickly.

The reader was excellent but the book didn't manage to fascinate me. I expected an utterly captivating plot due to the fact that the book is based on the murders of Jack the ripper. There was no mystery to be discovered since the reader understands from the beggining what is going on with the lodger. However the book was brilliantly recorded and thus easy to follow.
