Rainbow (Version 3) |
---|
Rainbow by D. H. Lawrence is a powerful and controversial novel that explores themes of love, desire, and societal expectations. The story follows the lives of three generations of the Brangwen family as they navigate the complexities of relationships and the changing world around them.
Lawrence's prose is lush and evocative, drawing the reader into the lives of his characters with vivid detail and emotional depth. The author's exploration of sexuality and desire is groundbreaking for its time, and it still feels daring and relevant today.
One of the most striking aspects of Rainbow is its exploration of the natural world and its impact on the characters' lives. Lawrence's descriptions of the landscape are poetic and immersive, creating a sense of place that feels almost like a character in its own right.
However, some readers may find Lawrence's approach to sexuality and gender roles to be dated or even offensive. The male characters in the novel often dominate and objectify the female characters, and there are instances of racism and homophobia that may be off-putting to modern readers.
In conclusion, Rainbow by D. H. Lawrence is a complex and thought-provoking novel that is sure to spark lively debate and discussion. Its exploration of love, desire, and societal norms is as relevant today as it was when it was first published, making it a timeless classic of literature. Book Description: |

Reviewer: Gavin Gillespie - April 9, 2019 Subject: The Rainbow, read clearly. I really enjoyed Tony Foster's reading of the Rainbow. The pronunciation of the words is very good, which is not very easy sometimes when reading Lawrence. There are two versions of The Rainbow on mp3 format, so make sure you get Version 2. |
Reviewer: Yvonne - May 10, 2016 Subject: Excellent! Superbly read by Tony Foster with genuine feeling for the prose - one reader throughout too, which is always a pleasure. |
