He was a leader of the Republican Party (the "GOP") and founder of the Progressive Party. Henry Cabot Lodge (1850 – 1924) was an American Republican Senator and historian from Massachusetts. He was also a friend and confidant of Theodore Roosevelt. He had the role (but not the official title) of the first Senate Majority Leader.
