Book cover
By: (1854-1900)

Oscar Wilde's comedic masterpiece, Importance of Being Earnest (version 5), is a witty and satirical play that highlights the absurdity and superficiality of Victorian society. Set in London, the play follows the lives of two men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who both adopt the alter ego of "Ernest" in order to escape the constraints of their everyday lives.

Wilde's clever dialogue and sharp wit are showcased throughout the play, with memorable one-liners and hilarious banter keeping the audience entertained from start to finish. The characters are larger than life, each embodying a different aspect of society and serving as a commentary on the hypocrisy and pretension of the upper class.

Despite being written over a century ago, Importance of Being Earnest (version 5) remains relevant today, as Wilde's critique of societal norms and expectations still resonate with audiences. The play's themes of identity, love, and social status are explored in a lighthearted and engaging manner, making it a timeless classic that continues to be performed and enjoyed by audiences worldwide.

Overall, Importance of Being Earnest (version 5) is a delightful and charming play that showcases Wilde's unparalleled wit and insight into human nature. With its entertaining plot, memorable characters, and sharp social commentary, it is a must-read for anyone looking for a comedic and thought-provoking piece of literature.

This is an excellent reading of "Earnest" although it's a shame that the reader sounds a bit like Yoda, its slightly offputting.
